Trainings & Consultations for EMDR Therapists

Frequently Ask Questions

  • What is EMDR and how does it work?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. According to the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), “It is a form of therapy that helps people heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. EMDR therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and used to resolve different issues and challenges. It is an empirically supported treatment for acute and chronic posttraumatic stress disorder. EMDR therapy has helped countless people of all ages to resolve psychological distress” (source: emdria.org).
  • How can EMDR training benefit my practice?
Research on EMDR has been focused on the treatment of trauma, however, it is effective in treating many other issues. EMDR is effective at reducing any irrational negative beliefs one has about themselves regardless of if it is tied to a traditional trauma memory. EMDR can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as depression, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, self-injurious behavior, mood dysregulation, impulsivity, addiction, grief, and many others. Most therapists that come to us for training have heard of EMDR from a colleague or experienced it as a client. Many are also interested in adding a new skill to their toolkit. Our Basic Training provides tangible skills for treating any level of trauma.
  • What can I expect from EMDR training?
All steps of the EMDR protocol will be taught in-depth. You will have the opportunity to develop close relationships within your small cohort. The EMDR Training Group teaches therapists how to effectively treat trauma.

EMDRIA requires the attendance of all 40 hours of instruction to complete training. Late arrivals and early outs will result in an incomplete attendance of training regardless of circumstances.
